Small Tips for Cleaning the Scale in the Water Tank of Diesel Generator

Jun. 29, 2023

Diesel generator sets are more and more widely used in all fields requiring emergency power supply, such as coal mines, factories, banks, etc. In order to enable the diesel generator set to operate normally and efficiently, its heated parts must be properly cooled to make it operate efficiently within the normal operating temperature range. As an important component of the cooling circuit of water-cooled engines, the water tank of the diesel generator set can absorb the heat of the cylinder block, prevent overheating of the genset from causing malfunctions.

After the diesel generator is used for a period of time, there will be some scale in the water tank. If there is scale accumulation in the water tank of the diesel generator, the water tank will be blocked, which will lead to overheating of the generator, leading to a significant reduction in thermal conductivity, which will directly affect the heat dissipation effect of the genset and thus reduce the use time of the diesel generator set. Therefore, we need to clean these scale in time, In order to improve the service life of the genset. How did these scales actually form?

Small Tips for Cleaning the Scale in the Water Tank of Diesel Generator

During the application process of the diesel generator set refrigeration system, there may be some loss of coolant, so it is necessary to add water to the refrigeration system in a timely manner. Some users do not add coolant or distilled water, but instead directly add hard water. In the end, the calcium and magnesium ions in hard water are easily mixed with the carbonate components in traditional coolants to cause scale. The key source of silicone scale is the silicate in the coolant of the drone. The key to metal material scaling is mainly iron scale and solder scale. The former is mainly caused by the consumption and peeling of the protective layer formed by the reflection of the carbonate in the traditional unmanned coolant and the iron metal material on the cylinder block, while the latter is caused by the strong oxidizing carbonate corrosion inhibitor that increases the blooming of solder, resulting in fluffy impurities. So, if the refrigeration system needs to add water, instead of directly adding tap water, it needs to use coolant or distilled water.

How to clean the scale in the water tank of Diesel generator?

Clean with acid-base cleaner. The first step is to use 30kg water, 2.5kg anhydrous Aluminium chloride and 0.6kg gasoline to prepare cleaning solution and pour it into the water tank. Then start the diesel engine and run it at medium speed for about 10 minutes before the engine stalls. Wait for 10 to 12 hours before restarting the diesel engine. Run the engine at a moderate speed for about 10 minutes to stop and release the cleaning fluid. After adding clean cooling water, start the diesel engine and run it at a moderate speed to self clean. Repeat this for 2-3 times to quickly clean the scale.
