How to Prevent 120kW Generator Set from Running at Small Load

1. Preparation before startup. Before starting the engine, it is necessary to check whether the cooling water or antifreeze in the diesel engine water tank meets the requirements. If there is a shortage, it should be topped up. Pull out the oil dipstick to check if there is a shortage of lubricating oil. If there is a shortage, add it to the specified scale line, and carefully check the relevant components for any potential faults. If any faults are found, they should be promptly eliminated before starting the machine.

2. It is strictly prohibited to start the diesel engine with load. Before starting a diesel engine, it is important to note that the output air switch of 120kW generator must be in a closed state. After starting diesel engine of 120kW generator set, it needs to run at idle speed for 3-5 minutes (around 700rpm). In winter, the temperature is low, and the idle running time should be appropriately extended for a few minutes. After starting the diesel engine, the first thing to observe is whether the oil pressure is normal and whether there are any abnormal phenomena such as oil or water leaks (under normal circumstances, the oil pressure must be above 0.2MPa). If any abnormalities are found, immediately stop the machine for maintenance. If there are no abnormalities, increase the diesel engine speed to the rated speed of 1500 rpm. At this time, the 120kW generator displays a frequency of 50Hz and a voltage of 400V. Then, the output air switch can be closed and put into use. The 120kW generator set is not allowed to operate without load for a long time. (Long time no-load operation will cause the diesel fuel injected from the diesel engine nozzle to fail to burn completely, resulting in carbon deposition and air leakage of valves and piston ring.) If it is an automatic generator set, idle operation is not required, because the automatic generator set is generally equipped with a water heater to keep the diesel engine cylinder body at about 45Co, and the diesel engine can be powered on normally within 8-15 seconds after starting.

3. Pay attention to the working status during operation. During the operation of the generator set, a dedicated person should be on duty and frequently observe a series of possible faults, especially the changes in important factors such as oil pressure, water temperature, oil temperature, voltage, frequency, etc. In addition, it is also important to ensure that sufficient diesel fuel is available. If fuel is interrupted during operation, it may objectively cause on-load shutdown, which may lead to damage to the generator excitation control system and related components.

4. It is strictly prohibited to shut down under load. Before each shutdown, the load must be gradually cut off, and then the output air switch of the generator set must be turned off. The diesel engine must be slowed down to idle speed and run for about 3-5 minutes before stopping.
