What is the difference between the prime power(rated power) of 400kw and the standby 400kw diesel generator? To understand this problem, we must first know the difference between the rated power and the standby power of the diesel generator set. Below, Dingbo Power will provide a detailed explanation for everyone.
1.Prime power(rated power)
Most of the power labels we see on the market for 400kW generator sets refer to the rated power, for example, if the label is 400KW, then the rated power of this generator set is 400KW. The rated power refers to the prime power. If the rated power is 400KW, it means that the generator set can operate continuously for about 24 hours under variable loads within 400KW, then its overload power will be 440KW.
2.Standby power(max.power)
The backup power refers to the larger power that the generator set can operate continuously for 300 hours between the specified maintenance cycles and under the specified environmental conditions, with a maximum of 500 working hours per year. Equivalent to the Limited Time Operating Power (LTP) in national and ISO standards. It is generally suitable for occasional emergency conditions with significant changes in load, such as communication and buildings. That is to say, the backup 400kW is the maximum, it has not overload ability.
3.Differences and connections between the prime power and standby power
The backup power is usually 1.1 times the prime power.
If you purchase a prime power 400kw generator, you can run it up to 440kw in one hour within 12 hours. If you purchase a backup power 400kw generator, if you don't overload it, you usually operate it at 400kw. In fact, the generator has always been in an overloaded state (because the actual prime(rated) power of the generator is only 360KW), which is very detrimental to the generator, will shorten its lifespan and cause an increase in failure rate.
Therefore, when buying a diesel generator, be sure to know whether it is rated power, or long-term overload will be detrimental to the generator.
