The Function of Storage Battery in Diesel Generator

1. The battery is mainly used to start the diesel engine. At one end of the diesel engine, there is a starting motor (motor) that uses direct current (24V). The starting motor drives the diesel engine to start it.

2. The second function is to monitor whether the power grid and oil/water conditions before starting meet the starting requirements.

3. The third is for excitation (some models of generators require manual excitation after starting).

 

Diesel generators are equipped with batteries, which are used to start the diesel generator set, called starting batteries. Electrolyte is not added when it is delivered to the user at random, so before use, electrolyte with specific gravity (1:1.28) should be added. First unscrew the top cover of the battery cell and slowly add the electrolyte as close as possible to the upper scale line. Do not use it immediately after topping up, but let the battery stand for about 15 minutes.

 

When charging the battery after filling the electrolyte, the continuous charging should not exceed 4 hours. Too long charging time will damage the service life of the generator battery.

 

However, when the storage time of the diesel generator battery exceeds 3 months, the charging time can be 7-8 hours, the ambient temperature continuously exceeds 30 ℃ or the relative humidity continuously exceeds 80%, and the charging time can be 7-8 hours. If the storage time of the diesel generator battery exceeds 1 year, the charging time can be 12 hours. At the end of charging, check whether the electrolyte level is sufficient, and add the standard electrolyte with the correct specific gravity (1:1.28) if necessary.

 

When charging the battery for the generator, first open the battery filter cap or vent cover, check the electrolyte level, and adjust it with distilled water if necessary. In addition, in order to prevent the pollution gas in the battery cell from being discharged in time due to long-term sealing and prevent the condensation of water droplets on the top wall inside the cell, special vent holes should be opened to facilitate proper air circulation.

 

It is not grounded but connected to the body, thus saving a wire.

Circuits with different types and functions of grounding have different grounding methods. Common grounding methods in electronic and power equipment include the following:

 

1. Safety grounding

Safe grounding refers to the connection between the shell of high-voltage equipment and the ground. The first is to prevent the accumulation of electric charges on the chassis and the generation of electrostatic discharge, which endangers the safety of equipment and personnel, such as the grounding of computer chassis and the tail of oil tank truck dragged on the ground, in order to release the accumulated electric charges and prevent accidents; Second, when the insulation of the equipment is damaged and the casing is electrified, the protection action of the power supply is prompted to cut off the power supply, so as to protect the safety of the staff, such as the casing of the refrigerator and rice cooker. Third, it can shield the huge electric field of equipment and play a protective role, such as the protective fence of civil transformer.

2. Lightning protection and grounding.

When the power electronic equipment is hit by lightning, whether it is direct lightning or inductive lightning, if there is no corresponding protection, the power electronic equipment will be greatly damaged or even scrapped. In order to prevent lightning strikes, we usually set lightning rods at high places (such as the roof and chimney top) to connect with the ground, so as to prevent the equipment and personnel from being endangered by lightning strikes. Both safety grounding and lightning protection grounding are designed to provide safety protection measures for electronic and power equipment or personnel to protect the safety of equipment and personnel.

 

3. Working grounding

Working grounding is a reference potential provided for the normal operation of the circuit. This reference potential is generally set to zero. The reference potential can be set as a point, a segment or a block in the circuit system. When the reference potential is not connected to the earth, it is regarded as the relative zero potential. However, this relative zero potential is unstable. It will change with the change of the external electromagnetic field, making the parameters of the system change, resulting in the unstable operation of the circuit system. When the reference potential is connected to the earth, the reference potential is regarded as the zero potential of the earth and will not change with the change of the external electromagnetic field. However, unreasonable working grounding will increase the interference of the circuit. For example, interference caused by incorrect grounding point and interference caused by incorrect connection of common end of electronic equipment. In order to effectively control all kinds of interference generated by the circuit in operation and make it conform to the principle of electromagnetic compatibility. When designing the circuit, we can divide the working ground into the following types according to the nature of the circuit, such as DC ground, AC ground, digital ground, analog ground, signal ground, power ground, power ground, etc. Different grounding shall be set separately. Do not mix them together in one circuit. For example, digital ground and analog ground cannot share a ground wire, otherwise the two circuits will produce very strong interference and paralyze the circuit!
