What Is the Effect of Circulating Water on Diesel Generator Set

May. 05, 2022

Water is a very important operating material for diesel generator sets. Diesel generator sets have requirements for water temperature. It's hot in summer and cold in winter. In these two seasons, when using diesel generator sets, it is necessary to have certain requirements for water temperature. An important role of circulating water is to cool the diesel generator set.

Due to the long-term operation of diesel generator set, the engine will become hot, so it needs cooling circulating water for cooling, otherwise the temperature of the whole generator set will rise. This is a great danger to generator set. Therefore, the use of cooling water can achieve real-time cooling and more useful to maintain the diesel generator set. So how should we maintain the diesel generator set in the extremes of hot summer and cold winter? Let's introduce:

The temperature is low in winter, the ambient temperature of diesel generator is also low, and the temperature of coolant will be very low. Therefore, the coolant temperature of diesel generator will rise slowly. When the diesel generator set gives full play to its useful power, the coolant temperature should be controlled at about 80 ℃. When using diesel generator set in winter, it is better to ensure that the water temperature is about 80 ℃ when preparing for power generation and operation load.

What Is the Effect of Circulating Water on Diesel Generator Set

If there is an abnormal high temperature period, the temperature is high in summer. In some areas, the high temperature can continue to reach 44.5 ℃. The temperature of the coolant of the diesel generator set rises rapidly in such a high temperature season. Diesel engine is prone to cylinder pulling accident under the high temperature of 100 ℃, so the diesel generator should stop working or reduce the load when the coolant exceeds about 95 °.

Summer and winter are two seasons with great changes in ambient temperature. Please pay attention to the circulating water temperature in these two seasons to prevent some problems of diesel generator set. There is no need to control the water temperature too much in spring and autumn.

Cooling mode and function of diesel generator set

The temperature of the diesel generator set will rise during operation. In order to ensure that the heating parts of the diesel engine and the shell of the supercharger are not affected by the high temperature and ensure the lubrication of each working surface, the heating part should be cooled. Generally speaking, the common cooling methods of diesel generator sets are air cooling and water cooling.

1. Air cooling mode: this cooling mode of diesel generator set takes air as the cooling medium. It is generally used in areas with water shortage.

2. Water cooling mode: this cooling mode of diesel generator set takes water as the cooling medium.

Water cooling is divided into two types: separated water cooling and closed water cooling. In the open cooling system, the circulating water is directly connected with the atmosphere, and the steam pressure in the cooling system is always maintained at atmospheric pressure. In the closed system, water circulates in the closed system, and the vapor pressure of the cooling system is greater than the atmospheric pressure. Due to the increase of the temperature difference between the cooling water temperature and the outside air temperature, the heat dissipation capacity of the whole cooling system is improved.
