Installation Method and Requirements for 50 kW Cummins Generator Set

1.Layout principles of 50kW Cummins generator set

(1) Ensure smooth air intake and exhaust in the computer room;

(2) Ensure that the noise and smoke generated during the operation of the unit pollute the surrounding environment as little as possible;

(3) There should be enough space around the diesel generator set to facilitate the cooling, operation and maintenance of the unit. Generally speaking, at least 1~1.5m around, and no other objects are allowed within 1.5~2m above;

(4) Trenches should be set up in the computer room to facilitate the laying of cables, water, and oil pipelines;

(5) Ensure that the unit is protected from damage such as rain, sunlight, wind, overheating, freezing, etc;

(6) Avoid storing flammable and explosive materials around 50kW Cummins generator set.

2. Ground foundation requirements

The foundation base used to place and fix the diesel generator set is very important. It must meet the following requirements:

(1) Support the weight of the entire unit and the dynamic impact load generated by the unbalanced force during unit operation;

(2) Having sufficient stiffness and stability to prevent deformation from affecting the coaxiality of the diesel engine, main AC generator, and accessories;

(3) Absorb the vibration generated during the operation of the unit, and prevent the transmission of vibration to the foundation and walls;

(4) The foundation should be as flat and smooth as possible;

(5) Reserve a discharge tank to facilitate the timely flow of wastewater, oil, and other pollutants.

When pouring the concrete base, it should be ensured that the top surface of the concrete is relatively flat and free from any damage. It is recommended to use a level or similar instrument in conjunction with the installation of the unit and exhaust system. The calculation method for the thickness of the concrete base is as follows:

D = 1.2 × W/（Q × B × L）

In the formula: D=thickness of the concrete base (m);

W=total weight of the unit (kg);

Q=specific gravity of concrete (kg/m3), generally 2402.8 kg/m3 can be used;

B=base width (m);

L=base length (m).

Generally speaking, the concrete platform height of diesel generator set only needs to be 150~200mm. In addition, the subsoil used for making concrete platforms must also have sufficient bearing strength to withstand the total weight of the entire device and concrete foundation above it. Cummins diesel generator sets are generally equipped with efficient vibration damping devices.

3. Installation requirements of 50kW Cummins generator set

(1) The installation of diesel generator set shall follow the scientific and reasonable principle to ensure good air inlet and outlet conditions and dust, rat, fire and explosion prevention measures;

(2) When installing the exhaust pipe, it should be ensured that the turbocharger assembly cannot withstand external pressure or lateral stress, and no impurities are allowed to enter the diesel engine combustion chamber through the exhaust system;

(3) Ensure that there is no fuel leakage or air intake at the connection of the oil pipe;

(4) Install rainproof measures at the exhaust pipe mouth of the outdoor part;

(5) The size of the inner diameter of the exhaust pipe should ensure that the exhaust back pressure of the unit does not exceed the allowable value specified in the technical specifications;

(6) The unit is well grounded, and the grounding specifications should comply with relevant electrical device standards. It is not recommended that the unit be grounded together with other electrical equipment;

(7) All external connections should be equipped with soft connections to prevent them from loosening or breaking due to frequent vibration, and even causing danger;

(8) Add antifreeze, rust inhibitor, and purified water to the water tank in an appropriate proportion to evenly mix the liquid to the appropriate level;

(9) Battery water should generally use a standard electrolyte with a specific gravity of 1.28;

(10) Ensure that the unit cannot start when connecting battery cables or carrying out load connections.
