Points For Attention In Use Of Air Filters of Volvo Diesel Generators

This article focuses on the precautions for the use of air filter. 

Volvo generator set can be regarded as a creature with its own life. The length of its life depends on its living environment. Like other people, we need to eat healthy food and breathe fresh and clean air. The working environment of the engine is often bad. Working in such an environment, people will choose to wear masks or disinfection masks. For engines, we install appropriate air filters on them.

Therefore, the following factors should be considered in selecting a suitable air filter:

1. Resistance (pressure loss)

2. Filtration efficiency (accuracy)

3. Dust capacity

The above 1 and 3 factors mainly determine the service life of the air filter; 2 factors determine the cleanliness of filtered air.

In order to make it convenient for customers to check whether the air filter needs to be replaced (service life), Volvo panda is designed with air pressure difference alarm. The alarm is divided into mechanical (filter dirty blockage indicator) and electronic alarm.

1. The dirty blockage indicator of the filter is shown as the arrow in Figure 1 below. When the air filter is dirty and blocked and the machine stops, the filter indicator will display red. At this time, you need to replace the air filter. After replacement, press the top of the indicator to reset it.

2. The electronic alarm indicator is as indicated by the arrow in Figure 2 below. When the air filter is dirty and blocked, the rear display screen of the machine will give an audible and visual alarm to remind the customer that the air filter needs to be replaced. The customer only needs to stop the machine normally and start the machine normally after replacing the rear air filter.

In order to ensure the accuracy of filtration, paper is the main material for the air filter equipped with high-speed machine in the market. Volvo engine also adopts the air filter with paper as the main material, so after the air filter is dirty and blocked, it can only be replaced, not purged and reused.

Volvo has also designed three types of air filters: standard filter (single filter element), medium load filter (single filter element) and heavy load filter (double filter element) for customers' choice in consideration of the different sites of customers' machines. Basically meet the use requirements of customers in different occasions. However, when operating in extremely dusty environments, such as coal mines and quarries, special air filters should be used (not supplied by Volvo penta). The air filter used in this special occasion needs to be determined by the equipment manufacturer and Volvo application department through calculation and pressure test.
