1. Role of the oil filter

Filter out various harmful impurities in the lubricating oil, prevent wear on the mating surface of the parts, and extend their service life. Usually, there are several filters with different filtration capabilities installed in the lubrication system - coarse filter and fine filter, which are respectively connected in series and parallel with the main oil passage, so the filters can be divided into full flow and split flow.

2. Full flow filter

The coarse filter is connected in series with the main oil duct, so most of the lubricating oil transported by diesel engines passes through it, which can filter out impurities with larger particle sizes in the lubricating oil. A shunt filter, also known as a fine filter, can remove extremely small impurities and is connected in parallel with the main oil passage. After being filtered by the fine filter, the lubricating oil returns to the oil pan. Due to the fact that a portion of the lubricating oil is always filtered through the fine filter during the operation of the diesel engine, the overall filtering effect is improved and the service life of the lubricating oil is extended.

3. Combined oil filter

The diesel engine full flow filter and split flow filter form a combined oil filter. The upper part of the filter contains a full flow filter element, and the lower part contains a bypass (shunt) filter element. The lubricating oil flowing through the full flow filter element of the oil filter enters the main oil passage, and the lubricating oil flowing through the bypass filter element of the filter flows back to the oil pan through the central pipe and the pipe on the engine oil cooler seat.

In order to prevent oil cut-off due to blockage of the primary filter, a bypass screen of the oil filter is also set in the oil filter seat. Under normal circumstances, the bypass valve is closed, and the engine oil is filtered by the filter before entering the main oil channel. When the oil filter is blocked, the lubricating oil pressure rises. When the bypass valve reaches the opening pressure of the bypass valve, the bypass valve opens, and the lubricating oil directly enters the main oil channel, thus ensuring the lubrication of the diesel engine. Unfiltered lubricating oil will have adverse effects on the diesel engine, so the filter should be replaced regularly to ensure that the diesel engine functions well.

4. Spin on paper core filter

The diesel engine oil filter is a spin on paper core filter, which consists of two filter elements: the filter base and the K19 type oil filter. There are two plunger spring valves on the oil filter. One is used to control the oil at the piston cooling nozzle, namely the piston cooling valve, and the other is used to bypass the oil when the filter element is blocked, namely the filter bypass valve.
