The generator set controller exists like a big brain. It can not only provide engine start-up, shutdown, data measurement, data display and fault protection functions, but also provide generator power measurement, power display and power protection functions. . The generator set DGC-2020ES function setting is suitable for single-unit generator set applications that do not require parallel connection or load sharing. The digital controller of this unit can perform the following functions:
1. Generator protection and measurement
Multi-function generator protection prevents generator overvoltage, undervoltage, reverse power, loss of excitation, low frequency, over frequency and over current. Each generator protection function has an adjustable action value and time delay setting.
The measured generator parameters include voltage, current, actual power (watts), apparent power (VA) and power factor (PF).
2. Engine protection and measurement
Engine protection functions include oil pressure and coolant temperature monitoring, over protection, ECU special protection components, and diagnostic reports.
Measured engine parameters include oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery voltage, speed, fuel level, engine load, coolant level (ECU), ECU specific parameters, and runtime statistics.
3. Event record
The event log keeps a historical record of system events in non-volatile memory. More than 30 event types will be retained, and each record includes the time stamp of the first and last occurrence, and the number of occurrences of each event.
4. Contact input and output
DGC-2020ES controller has 7 programmable contact inputs. All contact inputs are identified by dry contacts. Programmable inputs can be configured to initiate pre-alarms or alarms. The input signal can be programmed to receive the input signal of the automatic switch. The input signal can also be programmed to reset DGC-2020ES alarm and protection functions. Each input signal can be assigned a user-defined name for easy identification in the front panel display and fault record.
The output contacts include 3 dedicated relays to energize the engine preheating, fuel solenoid and starter solenoid. Provide 4 additional user programmable output contacts. Additional contact input and output contacts provide optional CEM-2020 (contact expansion module).
5. Automatic switch control (power grid failure)
DGC-2020ES can detect power failure through single-phase or three-phase bus input. Any of the following conditions can cause grid failure:
1) Any phase in the bus voltage drops below the bus threshold.
2) Overvoltage or undervoltage causes instability in all phases of the bus voltage.
3) Over frequency or low frequency causes all phases of the bus voltage to be unstable. At this time, DGC-2020ES will start the generator set, and when it is ready, the generator set will connect power to the load. DGC-2020ES performs open-circuit conversion from the grid. When the power supply is restored and stabilized, DGC-2020ES will transfer the load to the grid.
6. Communication
DGC-2020ES communication functions include a standard USB port for local (and temporary) communication, SAEJ1939 interface for remote communication, and RS-485 interface for communication with an optional remote display panel.
1) USB port
You can use the USB communication port and BESTCOMSPlus software to quickly configure the required settings for DGC-2020ES or retrieve measurement values and event log records.
2) CAN interface
The CAN interface provides high-speed communication between the DGC-2020ES and the engine control unit (ECU) of the electronically controlled engine. By directly reading these parameter values from the ECU, this interface can access data on oil pressure, coolant temperature, and engine speed. Where feasible, engine diagnostic data can also be accessed. The CAN interface supports the following protocols:
a. Association of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J1939 protocol—receive oil pressure, coolant temperature and engine speed data from ECU. In addition, DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) helps diagnose any engine or related malfunctions. Engine DTC can be displayed on the front panel of DGC-2020ES, and engine DTC can be obtained using BESTCOMSPlus® software.
b. MTU protocol—DGC-2020ES connected to the generator set equipped with MTUECU receives data from the engine controller for oil pressure, coolant temperature and engine speed, as well as various MTU-specific alarms and warnings. In addition, DGC-2020ES tracks and displays the activation fault code issued by the MTU engine ECU.
