Five Harms of Low Load Operation of Volvo Generating Set

There are five major harms in low load operation of Volvo generating set.

 

A. It often leads to poor sealing of piston cylinder liner, upward movement of oil, combustion in combustion chamber and blue smoke in exhaust.

B. For turbocharged diesel engine, because of low load and no-load, the boost pressure is low. It is easy to cause the sealing effect of supercharger oil seal (non-contact type) to decline, and the oil flows into the supercharger chamber and into the cylinder with the intake air.

C. A part of the lubricating oil that moves up to the cylinder takes part in the combustion. A part of the lubricating oil can't burn completely and forms carbon deposits at the valve, intake port, piston crown, piston ring, etc. and a part of the engine oil is discharged with the exhaust. In this way, oil will gradually accumulate in the exhaust passage of the cylinder liner, and carbon will also form.

D. When the oil in the supercharger chamber accumulates to a certain extent, it will leak out from the joint surface of the supercharger.

E. It is also a very significant harm that long-term small load operation will lead to more serious wear of moving parts, deterioration of engine combustion environment and other consequences leading to the advance of overhaul period.

Many people think: the smaller the load of Volvo generating set, the more beneficial. In fact, this is a very serious misunderstanding, because more than 10 minutes of long low load or no-load will damage the engine. This is because the chamber temperature is so low that the fuel can not be completely injected, which leads to the formation of carbon deposits around the injector orifice and ring and causes valve adhesion. If the engine coolant temperature is lower than 60 ° C, the oil on the cylinder wall will be washed away by the unused fuel. Volvo generator will dilute the oil in the crankcase, which will affect the oil quality and shorten the engine life. Therefore, the idle time should be shortened as far as possible to prevent this situation

 

Therefore, when using diesel generating set, do not run it under very low load. For new machine, should run on 80% load, this is a safe operation and the lowest fuel consumption. After running for a while, can increase the load gradually.


At the same time, we should also pay attention to somethings when using Volvo generator.


A.Preparation before start up generator

1. Check whether the oil level, coolant level and fuel quantity are within the specified value.

2. Check whether the oil supply, lubrication and cooling system of diesel engine have leakage problem.

3. Check the electrical circuit for potential leakage such as skin damage, ground wire and electrical circuit for looseness, and the connection between the unit and the foundation for firmness.

4. If the ambient temperature is lower than zero, add a certain proportion of antifreeze in the radiator according to the proportion in the manual.

5. The air in the fuel system must be exhausted when the diesel generator unit starts or stops for a long time.

6. Swing the switch trolley of generator incoming cabinet to the working position and check whether the energy storage switch is in the closed position.

 

B.After Volvo generator start up.

1. After closing the fuse in the control box, press the start button, and press the button for 3 ~ 5S. If failure to start, wait for about 20s to start again. If the start-up is unsuccessful for many times, stop the start-up operation, remove the battery voltage fault or oil circuit and other fault factors, and then start again.

2. When starting, observe the oil pressure. If the oil pressure does not show or is very low, stop the engine immediately for inspection.

 

C.During running of Volvo generating set

1. After the machine starts, check whether the parameters of the control box module including oil pressure, water temperature, voltage, frequency, etc. are within the specified range, and record them in the record book every 1 hour.

2. Usually, the speed of the unit reaches the rated speed directly after starting; For units with idle speed requirements, the idle time is generally 3 ~ 5min, and the idle time is not better to be too long, otherwise the relevant components of the generator may be burned.

3. Check the oil, water and electrical leakage of the unit.

4. Check the fastening of each connection of the unit to see if there is looseness and severe vibration.

5. Observe whether the various protection and monitoring devices of the unit are normal.

6. Check whether the temperature of the generator is within the specified range.

7. When the speed reaches the rated speed and the parameters of no-load operation are stable, switch on the power supply.

8. Check and confirm whether the parameters of the control panel are within the allowable range, and check the vibration of the unit again for three leaks and other faults.

9. Overload operation is strictly prohibited during unit operation.
