How to Adjust Oil Supply Volume of Cummins Diesel Generator

If the oil supply of each cylinder of Cummins diesel generator set is uneven (such as excessive oil supply of some cylinders and too small oil supply of some cylinders), it will directly affect the stability of engine operation. The fuel injection pump can be removed and checked and adjusted on the test bench. However, if there is no test bench but the uneven oil supply must be checked, the oil supply of the suspected cylinder can also be roughly checked. Inspection and adjustment method:

1.Prepare two glass measuring cylinders for use. If the measuring cylinder cannot be found at the moment, it can also be replaced by two identical vials.

2.Remove the high-pressure oil pipe connector between cylinder 1 and fuel injector with excessive (or too small) fuel supply.

3.Then remove the high-pressure pipe joint between cylinder 1 and fuel injector with normal fuel supply.

4.Insert the ends of two oil pipes into two measuring cylinders (or vials) respectively.

5.Turn the engine with the starter to make the fuel injection pump pump oil.

6.When there is a certain amount of diesel in the equivalent cylinder (or small bottle), place the measuring cylinder on the horizontal platform and compare the oil quantity to determine whether the oil supply is too large or too small. If a vial is used instead, it can be weighed and compared. The relative position of the pull fork (or ring gear) on the fuel volume adjustment pull rod (i.e. gear rod) of the fuel injection pump can be changed for adjustment. During the operation of Cummins diesel generator set, the following points shall be paid special attention according to experience:

1.Loosen the set screw of the fork (or gear ring, or flange sleeve), and the oil supply can be changed only by slight movement. Do not move too much, otherwise it is difficult to adjust accurately (if necessary, mark the initial position first for comparison).

2.After each adjustment, the tightening degree of the fixing screw must be confirmed.

3.When adjusting the oil supply, ensure that the oil supply shall not be higher than the standard oil supply. This is because the adjustment is carried out at low speed. Considering the influence of oil leakage and many other factors, a large non-uniformity (30%) is allowed at this time, but at high speed, due to the influence of throttling and other factors, the allowable non-uniformity is small (3%). If the oil quantity at low speed is higher than the standard oil supply quantity, the oil quantity at high speed may change greatly or even exceed the rated oil supply quantity.

4. If there is a large difference between the maximum fuel supply and the minimum fuel supply on the same engine, do not rush to adjust. First adjust and install the outlet valves of the two slave pumps for inspection and comparison. Sometimes, the fuel supply can also be changed. If the oil supply is not changed after adjustment, the two sub pumps need to be adjusted one by one.

5. Use the comparison method to adjust the oil supply, and the operation must be careful.
