What is the Reason for the Unstable Speed of Perkins Diesel Generator

Mar. 11, 2023

Nowadays, diesel generators are used in various fields. Do you know why the speed of Perkins diesel generators is unstable? Next, let Dingbo Power introdce to you.

The main reasons for unstable speed of diesel generator are as follows:

1. Flyball wear

At idle speed, the opening of the flying ball is the smallest, and the spring slide sleeve extends too far to the flying ball due to the wear of the small roller of the flying ball, which causes irregular direct collision with the flying ball body, resulting in unstable idle speed. At this time, gently touch the refueling lever with your hand, and you will feel slightly impacted.

2. The idle spring elasticity is poor or adjusted improperly.

When the diesel generator is running, the increase of load will reduce the speed. If the idle spring or starting spring becomes soft, the fuel supply gear rod cannot move rapidly to the direction of increasing oil to increase the speed, which will cause the diesel generator to automatically shut down in serious cases.

3. Improper adjustment of speed stabilizing spring.

At idle speed, due to the small centrifugal force of flying ball, the control force of speed regulation is also small. If the Perkins diesel generator decelerates suddenly, the adjustment movement of the fuel supply rod may exceed the idle position, causing the diesel generator to shut down. In order to prevent this situation, the speed stabilizing spring is pushed to the idle position behind the governor cover against the oil supply gear rod; If the spring is too soft or adjusted slightly, it will weaken or fail to stabilize the speed, making the idle speed unstable.

4. The low pressure oil supply is not smooth or contains water and air.

This will make the fuel supply vary from large to small, especially in the low speed area, which will lead to unstable operation of the diesel generator.

5. The camshaft taper bearing of the support cam of the fuel injection pump is excessively worn.

In this case, the camshaft will move irregularly in the axial direction, making the speed of diesel generator unstable.

6. The fuel supply of the fuel injection pump is uneven, untimely or poor.

Under the condition of low speed operation, if the oil supply is not uniform or the oil supply is not correct, it will have a great impact on the stability of the rotating speed. However, this instability is characterized by regular pins and short periodicity.

7. Insufficient cylinder compression.

When the compression force of the cylinder decreases, because the degree of decline of each cylinder is not necessarily the same, even if the fuel supply of the fuel injection pump is balanced, the combustion situation may still be different, resulting in unstable speed at low speed.
