220KVA Generator Cutoff Immediately After Startup

Recently, one of our client said their 220kva diesel generator with 1300 hours of operation cannot be started for inspection and maintenance.

 

Fault diagnosis: after connecting the equipment, verify the fault phenomenon reflected by the user, start the equipment, set the diesel generator on fire instantly, but shut down immediately, and the exhaust pipe emits heavy black smoke. After opening the diesel generator cover, it was found that the diesel generator had very obvious marks of just disassembly and installation. After asking the 220kva generator owner, we learned that the equipment had just been overhauled, and this fault occurred after installation. Connect ISID for diagnosis and detection, and the diesel generator control system does not store relevant fault contents.

 

First, check the fuel supply of the diesel generator, disassemble the gasoline pipeline and check the gasoline pressure. It is found that the oil pressure is not abnormal, and use ISTA to call the control unit function of the diesel generator. The high and low pressure of the fuel are normal. Eliminate the causes of fuel supply.

Check that no abnormality is found in the intake system and exhaust system. At the same time, unplug the air flowmeter and start the equipment console again. The diesel generator still shuts down immediately after running for 2-3s, and the exhaust pipe emits black smoke.

Disconnect any of the position sensors of the intake and exhaust camshaft, and the diesel generator will run very smoothly. At this time, it is suspected that the timing of the diesel generator is wrong.


Remove the valve cover of the diesel generator and check the valve timing. It is found that there is no abnormality and there is no problem with the timing of the diesel generator. During the inspection, it was found that the inlet camshaft adjusting device and the exhaust camshaft adjusting device were installed reversely. After adjusting the intake and exhaust adjustment device and reinstalling the timing of diesel generator, the engine equipment bench and the diesel generator operate well, and the fault phenomenon disappears.


The valve mechanism is equipped with adjustable camshaft controls (dual cam variable timing control system) for inlet and exhaust valves. VANOS can delay the opening time of inlet and exhaust valves. A camshaft position sensor is installed on the inlet camshaft and the exhaust camshaft respectively, and the two camshaft sensors detect the position of the camshaft. For this purpose, an incremental wheel (camshaft sensor toothed disc) is fixed on the camshaft. The camshaft sensor operates according to the Hall effect. The bus terminal kl.15 is used to supply power through digital diesel generator electronic servo control system (DME). The sensor sends a digital signal through the signal line to the digital diesel generator electronic servo control system (DME).

 

Based on this, the digital diesel generator electronic servo control system (DME) calculates:

1. Camshaft speed

2. Adjustment speed of camshaft

3. Exact position of camshaft

 

When the camshaft sensor fails, the following conditions are expected:

Record the fault code in the diesel generator control unit.

Emergency operation at alternative value.

The adjustment stroke of the VANOS units of the inlet and outlet camshafts is different. Therefore, do not install it incorrectly, otherwise the diesel generator may be damaged due to the impact of the piston on the valve. Therefore, the words "ex" or "in" are engraved on the front plate of VANOS unit.
