Cleaning of the exhaust turbocharger

1. It is not allowed to use corrosive cleaning fluid to clean various parts.

2. Soak the carbon deposits and sediments on the parts in the cleaning solution to make them soft. Among them, the thick carbon deposit layer on the side wall of the turbine end in the oil return cavity of the intermediate shell must be completely removed.

3. Only use a plastic scraper or a bristle brush to clean or scrape the dirt on the aluminum and copper parts.

4. The journal and other bearing surfaces should be protected when cleaning with steam shock.

5. Use compressed air to clean the lubricating oil passages on all parts.

Exhaust turbocharger inspection

Do not clean all parts before visual inspection to analyze the cause of damage. The main components to be checked are listed below.

1. Floating bearing

Observe the wear of the end face and inner and outer surfaces of the floating ring. Under normal circumstances, the lead-tin layer plated on the inner and outer surfaces still exists after long-term operation, and the wear on the outer surface is larger than that on the inner surface, and there are slight wear marks on the end face with oil grooves, which are all normal conditions. The grooves drawn on the working surface of the floating ring are caused by unclean lubricating oil. If the surface scratches are serious or the wear limit is exceeded after measurement, it is recommended to replace the floating ring with a new one.

2. Intermediate shell

Observe whether there are scratches and carbon deposits on the surface adjacent to the back of the compressor impeller and the back of the turbine impeller. If there is rubbing phenomenon, the floating bearing has large wear and the surface of the inner hole seat of the bearing is damaged, it is necessary to use the corresponding grinding rod to grind the inner hole or gently wipe the inner hole surface with metallographic sand skin to remove the adhesion to the inner hole. Traces of copper and lead substances on the surface can only be used after passing the measurement, and the reasons for the above-mentioned bad situations should be analyzed.

3. Turbine rotor shaft

On the working journal of the rotor, touch the working surface with your fingers, you should not feel any obvious groove; observe the carbon deposits at the turbine end seal ring groove and the wear of the side wall of the ring groove; observe whether there are any grooves on the inlet and outlet edges of the turbine blades Bending and breaking; whether there are cracks on the edge of the blade outlet and whether there are curling burrs caused by friction at the tip of the blade; whether there is a scratch on the back of the turbine blade, etc.

4. Compressor impeller

Check whether the back of the impeller and the top part of the blade are rubbed; check whether the blade is bent or broken; whether the edge of the blade inlet and outlet is cracked or damaged by foreign objects, etc.

5. Bladeless volute and compressor casing

Check whether the arc part of each shell is rubbed or scratched by foreign objects. Pay attention to observe the degree of oil deposits on the surface of each flow channel and analyze the reasons for the above-mentioned problems.

6. Elastic sealing ring

Check the wear and carbon deposits on both sides of the sealing ring; the thickness of the ring and the opening gap in the free state should not be less than 2mm, if it is less than the above value and the thickness of the ring exceeds the specified wear limit, it should be replaced.

7. Thrust plate and thrust bearing

There should be no obvious grooves that can be felt by fingers on the working surface. At the same time, check whether the oil inlet hole on the thrust bearing is blocked, and measure the axial thickness of each piece to meet the specified size range. If there are obvious wear marks on the working surface of the thrust piece but the wear limit value is not exceeded, the other unworn surface of the two thrust pieces can be installed in sequence as the working surface during reassembly.
