How is Oil Deterioration of Diesel Generator Set

Dec. 20, 2021

Everyone knows the importance of lubricating oil to engines.  Engine brings lubrication, cleaning, cooling and other functions, can better protect the stability of the normal operation of the engine, prolong the service life of the engine.  Therefore, the maintenance of oil is very key.  Because of the use of time and environmental factors of the function, engine oil may deteriorate.  Today we are going to talk about the problem of oil deterioration of diesel generator set, please pay attention to it!

How is oil deterioration of diesel generator set?  Do I need to replace it?

1. The operating temperature of the generator set is too high

When lube, be careful not to get hot again.  High temperature is one of the key factors of lubrication deterioration.  Lubricating oil not only brings the function of lubricating and protecting equipment, but also brings the function of cooling equipment components.  High temperature operation accelerates the loss of additives and base oils.  Generally speaking, the operating temperature of lubricating oil is 30-80℃.  Lubricating oil life is closely related to operating temperature.  Experience shows that the life of hydraulic oil decreases for every 60°C, 18 ° F (7.8°C) increase in temperature.  Therefore, as far as possible in the use of lubricating oil in the link to adjust the temperature of lubricating oil to avoid deterioration, such as through the use of heat exchanger to adjust the temperature.

2. Air oxidation of lubricating oil

Air oxidation of lubricating oil is a chemical reaction between oil and oxygen molecules.  Air oxidation will increase the viscosity of lubricating oil, resulting in film formation, sludge and precipitation.  Air oxidation also speeds up additive consumption and decomposition of base oils.  With the gradual air oxidation of lubricant, the acid value increases gradually.  In addition, air oxidation can cause equipment corrosion and corrosion.

3. lubricant is damaged

Lubricants in the use of links should avoid damage, such as water, dust, air, various impurities residue and other lubricants.  A variety of metal materials contained in some metal equipment, such as copper, iron and so on, will promote the oxidation of oil air deterioration, increase the viscosity of lubricating oil, resulting in acidic substances, corrosive mechanical parts, I do.  Copper and lead are particularly useful, and the function of metal salts depends on the type of ion and the concentration of metal salts.  Air and water will also aggravate the air oxidation of lubricating oil, which can be monitored by oil detection and air oxidation to guide equipment maintenance.

4. Additive consumption

Most additives are consumed in the process of use. It is critical to monitor additive status through oil testing.  With additive monitoring, you can tell if an oil is healthy. The oil test will also tell you why the additives are running out.

5.bubble + pressure (miniature diesel engine)

Oil problems caused by bubbles are very common in hydraulic systems.  When the oil bubbles from the low pressure area to the high pressure area, will cause oil bubbles.  When compressed, bubbles are created, the temperature of the surrounding oil rises, and the oil is oxidized.  Therefore, high quality lubricating oil must have excellent defoaming characteristics.  In addition, please do not inhale air during use.
