Several notes of installing a new diesel generator set

A complete diesel generator set is generally composed of a diesel engine, generator, control cabinet, fuel tank, starting and control batteries, protection devices, emergency cabinet, and other components. It usually used by mines, ports, municipal machinery, field construction site, building construction, aquaculture & breeding sites and other places. If you want a new diesel generator set to be put into normal operation, the first step is correct installation. Dingbo Power reminds you that attention must be paid to the following points during the installation of a new diesel generator set.

1.       Installation location must be well-ventilated, sufficient air vent shall be provided at the diesel engine end and generator end. The area of the air outlet shall be more than 1.5 times the area of the water tank.

2.       Around the installation location should keep cleanly. Avoid placing substances that emit corrosive gases and vapors such as acids and alkalis in the vicinity. Equipped with fire suppression device if conditions permit.

3.       If used indoor, you must vent the smoke exhaust pipe to the outside. The pipe diameter must be greater than or equal to that of the muffler outlet. The number of elbows in the connected pipeline shall not exceed 3 to ensure smooth exhaust. The pipe should be inclined downward by 5-10 degrees to prevent rainwater from entering. If the exhaust pipe is installed vertically upward, a rain cover must be fitted.

4.       If the generator is installed on a concrete foundation, a level must be used to measure its horizontality during installation, so that the genset is fixed on a level foundation. Anti-vibration pads or anchor bolts shall be installed between the genset and the concrete foundation.

5.       The genset enclosure must have a reliable protective earthing connection. For generators requiring a directly earthed neutral point, earthing must be carried out by a professional. A lightning protection device shall be installed, and it is forbidden to use the mains earthing device for direct earthing of the neutral point.

6.       The transfer switch of generator and mains power supply must be extremely reliable to prevent the back-feeding. The reliability of wiring for transfer switch must be inspected and approved by the local power supply authority.

7.       The starting battery connections must be secure.

After the diesel generator set has been properly installed, it can only be officially put into use following a series of commissioning and acceptance procedures. Regular diesel generator manufacturers generally provide installation, commissioning and acceptance services for diesel generator sets, and also conduct corresponding operation training for users to ensure safe and reliable use.
