Some Basic Knowledge Of Diesel Generator Set

1. What is the power factor of three-phase diesel generator?  In order to improve the power factor of the generator set, can the power compensator be added?  

A: The power factor of a three-phase generator set is 0.8.  The power compensator should not be added because the charge and discharge of the compensator capacitor will cause fluctuations in the small power supply.  And cause the generator set oscillation.  

2. Why do we require our customers to tighten all electrical contacts after every 200 hours of operation of the newly bought generator set?  

A: Diesel generator set is a vibrator.  And now many domestic production or assembly generator manufacturers are using single nut, some spring gasket is no use, once the electrical fasteners, lax, can produce a lot of contact resistance, lead to generator operation is not normal, but the front hair power production of diesel generating sets all adopt the double nut, shim, so there is no this phenomenon;  

3. Why must the generator room be clean and free from floating sand?  

A: diesel engine movement will inhale a lot of air, if the room is not clean, the ground has floating sand, then the air is dirty, dirty air will make the engine power decline;  If the generator inhales sand particles and other impurities, the insulation between the rotor clearance will be destroyed, and the generator set will be burned.  

4. How to match UPS power supply and diesel generator power to ensure UPS output stability?  

A: 1) UPS is generally expressed as KVA. First, multiply it by 0.8 and convert it into the unit KW consistent with the generator.  

2) If the general generator is used, the power of the generator set is determined by multiplying UPS by 2, that is, the power of the generator set is twice the power of UPS.  

3) If the generator with PMG (permanent magnet excitation) is used, the power of the UPS is multiplied by 1.2 to determine the power of the generator set, that is, the power of the generator set is 1.2 times that of the UPS  

5. Can the electronic or electrical components with a voltage withstand of 500V be used in the diesel generator control cabinet?  

A: No.  Because the 400/230V voltage marked on the diesel generator set is the effective voltage.  Its peak voltage is 1.414 times of the effective voltage.  That is, the peak voltage of diesel generator is Umax=566/325V.  

6. Do all diesel generators have self-protection function?  

A: No.  At present the market even in the same brand of units with some, some do not take.  Customers must figure it out when buying units.  It is best to write written materials as contract attachments, generally low-cost machines are not with self-protection function.  Front power provides automatic protection function as standard for diesel generator sets.
