The engine oil as important as human blood. When selecting engine oil, attention should be paid to the local season and temperature to choose the appropriate quality grade and viscosity grade. Attention should be paid to the following operational details, as these are likely to cause the engine oil to deteriorate and turn black rapidly.

1. During replacing the engine oil, it is necessary to clean up the lubricating oil tank and oil passage of diesel generator set. If not, its residue will contaminate the new oil and causing the engine oil to turn black.

2. Attention should be paid to whether the fuel is completely burned during the diesel generator set operation, and whether there is excessive wear between the piston, piston ring, and cylinder block, and whether the sealing is tight. If the fuel burns incompletely, the exhaust gas entering the lubricating oil tank will cause the lubricating oil to quickly become black and thick.

3. It is necessary to select the lubrication oil that meets the required grade. High-temperature, high-speed, and overload diesel generator set should use the engine oil with good oxidative stability, good additive quality. If use the poor-quality oil will cause the oil to darken and turn black rapidly.

The normally new engine oil generally presents oily yellow. Black engine oil indicates an excessive presence of impurities, such as extremely small metal cutting particles and carbon deposits. If these impurities are carried to all friction surfaces requiring lubrication during diesel generator operation, they will cause severe secondary wear on the mechanical components. In this case, all the engine oil must be replaced. During normal use, new gensets undergoing initial operation or those after major overhaul should have their engine oil and oil filter replaced. As a general rule, the engine oil must be replaced after approximately 250 operating hours.
