Water Cooling Principle of Volvo Diesel Generator Set

Jan. 09, 2022

The manufacturer of Volvo diesel generators will learn how water cooling systems work: water cooling systems can be divided into forced circulating water cooling systems and natural circulating water cooling systems, depending on how the coolant is circulated. The cooling water jacket is cast in the cylinder head and cylinder block of the diesel engine. After the pump pressurizes the coolant, the coolant passes through the distribution pipe to calm the water jacket of the cylinder block. The cooling fluid absorbs heat from the cylinder wall, rises in temperature, and then flows into the cylinder head water jacket and into the water pipe through the thermostat and radiator. At the same time, due to the rotating suction of the fan, into the radiator, air through the radiator core blown out, so the heat flow through the radiator core of the coolant is constantly emitted into the atmosphere, the temperature is reduced. Eventually, after being pressurized by a pump, it flows back into the cylinder's water jacket, so the cycle continues and the diesel engine speeds up. In order to evenly cool the front and rear cylinders of multi-cylinder diesel engines, diesel engines are usually equipped with water distribution pipes or casting water distribution chambers in the cylinder. The distribution pipe is a metal pipe that produces oil heat along the length of the water hole. The larger the pump, the closer the cooling intensity of the front and rear cylinders, the whole machine is evenly cooled.

Water Cooling Principle of Volvo Diesel Generator Set

Most Volvo diesel generators use a forced circulating water cooling system. That is, the water pump is used to increase the pressure of the cooling medium. The volume of the cooling system is much smaller than that of the natural circulation, and the cooling of the upper and lower cylinders is more uniform.

The water cooling system is also equipped with water temperature sensor and water temperature meter. The water temperature sensor is installed on the outlet pipe of the cylinder head, and the water temperature from the outlet pipe of the river is transmitted to the water temperature meter. The operator can always use the water temperature meter to see how the cooling system is working. Normal operating water temperature is usually 80-90°C. Coolant and cold night resistance. The coolant used in diesel engines should be clean soft water. If hard water is used, the minerals in it will settle at high temperatures and adhere to pipes, jackets and radiator cores to create scale and reduce heat dissipation. The ability to easily overheat the diesel engine can also poison the radiator core and accelerate the wear of the pump impeller and casing. Hard water with more minerals needs to be softened before it can be added to the cooling system. The common way to soften hard water is to add 0.5-1.5g of sodium carbonate to 1L of water. If the item precipitates, the impurities generated in 0.5-0.8g of sodium hydroxide are precipitated, and the purified water is injected into the cooler.
