How do I identify generator terminals?

(1) Armature terminal

The armature terminal is a relatively thick terminal on an AC generator, usually 6mm in diameter.

(2) Ground wire terminal, magnetic field terminal and neutral terminal

There are two thin terminals with a diameter of 3 mm on the generator. The root of one screw is in direct contact with the shell or connected with the conductive copper sheet as the ground terminal. The adjacent thin terminal is the magnetic field terminal. Neutral terminals also have independent terminals.

(3) Multimeter measurement and identification

Before measuring, remove the lead from the alternator terminal and place the multimeter in the "R x 10" or "R x 100" position, then connect one probe to the alternator housing and the other probe in turn to the two thin terminals on the brush stand. A terminal with a resistance of 0 is a ground terminal, and a terminal with a resistance of 0 is a magnetic field terminal. The resistance to ground of the armature terminal is high, and that of the neutral terminal is low.
