The diesel generator set uses the diesel engine as the driving force. Within a certain speed range, a certain amount of clean diesel oil is injected into the cylinder with a certain pressure and a certain amount of fuel injection into the cylinder within a certain period of time. And make it mix quickly and well with compressed air and fuel, and then drive the alternator.

 

It is generally recommended that users select the appropriate brand of diesel oil according to the ambient temperature to ensure the performance of diesel generator. However, many users also have questions about whether diesel generator set can directly use biodiesel.

To understand this question, we must first know what biodiesel is. Biodiesel refers to the renewable diesel fuel produced and processed through the transesterification process using oil crops, aquatic vegetable oils and fats, animal oils and food waste oil as raw materials. Compared with petrochemical diesel, biodiesel first has excellent environmental protection properties, and has excellent properties such as low temperature start-up, good lubrication performance, high safety performance, and reproducibility. In particular, the combustibility of biodiesel is generally better than that of petrodiesel. The combustion residues are slightly acidic, which effectively prolongs the service life of both the catalyst and the engine oil. In daily life, if biodiesel is mixed with petrochemical diesel in a certain proportion, it can reduce fuel consumption, improve power performance, and reduce exhaust pollution.

 

Biodiesel, also known as fatty acid methyl ester, is mainly obtained from plant fruits, seeds, plant ductal milk, animal fat oil, waste edible oil, etc., and is obtained by lactide reaction with alcohols (methanol, ethanol). Biodiesel has many advantages. If the source of raw materials is extensive, various animal and vegetable oils can be used as raw materials; the use of biodiesel does not require any modification or replacement of parts for existing diesel engines; compared with petrochemical diesel, biodiesel storage, transportation and use are safer. It does not corrode the container, nor is it inflammable or explosive; after chemical preparation, its calorific value can reach 100% or more of that of petrochemical diesel; and it is a renewable resource, reducing pollution to the global environment.

 

The study found that a blend of 10% biodiesel and 90% petrodiesel could be used without any modifications to the diesel generator set's engine. There is basically no impact on the power, economy, durability and other indicators of the engine of generator set.

 

Before using vegetable oil as raw material to produce biodiesel and commercialize it, there are still many problems to be solved.

 

1. The molecule of grease is larger, about 4 times that of petrochemical diesel, and the viscosity is higher, about 12 times that of No. 2 petrochemical diesel, so it affects the injection time course, resulting in poor injection effect;

2. The volatility of biodiesel is low, it is not easy to be atomized in the engine, and the mixing effect with air is poor, resulting in incomplete combustion and the formation of combustion carbon deposits, so that the grease is easy to stick to the injector head or accumulate in the engine cylinder. Affect its operating efficiency, resulting in the problem of cold car start and ignition delay. In addition, the injection of biochemical diesel oil can also easily thicken and thicken the lubricating oil of the engine, which affects the lubricating effect.

3. The price of biochemical diesel is high. Due to price issues, biochemical diesel is currently mostly used in urban bus transportation systems, diesel power plants, large diesel air conditioners, etc., with a relatively narrow range of applications.

4. Although biodiesel can greatly reduce suspended particles, carbon dioxide and no sulfur, it not only fails to reduce nitrogen oxides, but increases them, so that the environmental protection effect is limited.
