Why can't diesel generator stop immediately under full load

The diesel generator set must be operated by experienced and skilled professional operators in the process of use. Whether the unit is started or stopped, the correct operating steps must be followed. Dingbo Power found that some users still did not pay enough attention to the correct operating procedures of the unit. In the process of using the diesel generator set, emergency shutdown with load or immediate shutdown after sudden load removal even occurred, This is a very wrong behavior.

Why can't the diesel generator set stop immediately under full load? This is because the circulation of cooling water stops after the diesel generator flameout, so that the heat dissipation can be sharply reduced, and the heated parts lose their cooling, which is easy to cause overheating of cylinder head, cylinder liner, cylinder block and other parts, resulting in cracks, or make the piston shrink excessively and get stuck in the cylinder liner. On the other hand, if the diesel generator is shut down without cooling at idle speed, the friction surface will be lack of oil. When commercial generators is started again, the wear will be aggravated due to poor smoothness. Therefore, the load of the diesel generator shall be removed before the flameout, and the speed shall be gradually reduced, and the diesel generator shall run for several minutes without load.

In general, the diesel generator set only needs to be shut down normally during use. However, in case of special circumstances, such as serious abnormal knocking noise, parts damage that may cause a serious accident, piston, crankshaft and other moving parts getting stuck, engine endangering the operator, fire or other serious natural disasters, emergency shutdown is required. Normal shutdown steps

1. Unload the load step by step to no load;

2. Press the stop button, and the diesel generator set will run for 1-3 minutes at idle speed to let the lubricating oil and cooling water take away the heat from the combustion chamber and other parts;

3. The diesel generator set shall be shut down according to the set procedure.

Emergency Stop Procedure

1. Remove all loads quickly;

2. Press the Emergency Stop button quickly to force the diesel generator set to stop running quickly.

Dingbo Power's warm reminder: Except for special faults, it is prohibited to stop the diesel generator set suddenly during the use of the diesel generator set to avoid overheating of the supercharger which will cause bearing or oil seal failure, and it is also prohibited to make the engine idle for a long time. In order to ensure the good operation state of the diesel genset, the user shall also start the diesel generator set for maintenance once a week, and each start will last for 15-20 minutes. If it is a standby diesel generator and the shutdown is expected to exceed one month, it is recommended to seal the diesel generator.
