Causes of Cylinder Head Failure of Emergency Generator

The cylinder head of emergency generator set is one of the main components of emergency diesel generator set. The cylinder head is installed on the top of the cylinder block, sealing the cylinder from the top and forming the combustion chamber. It often contacts with high temperature and high pressure gas, so it bears great thermal and mechanical loads. The cylinder head is equipped with intake and exhaust valve seats, valve guide holes, which are used to install intake and exhaust valves, as well as intake and exhaust channels.

The leakage of the joint surface between the cylinder head and the engine body of emergency generator set will cause the air in the cylinder body to enter the water channel or oil channel, causing the coolant to enter the engine body. If it is not found in time, it will lead to black smoke, which will lead to insufficient engine power. Due to the damage of the cylinder gasket of the emergency generator set, a stream of air will rush out of the cylinder gasket when changing speed, and bubbles will appear at the gasket when the engine is running. At this time, tighten the cylinder head nut or replace the cylinder head gasket according to the specified torque.

Due to the exhaust leakage of emergency generators, the air intake is insufficient or there is exhaust gas mixed in the air intake, which leads to insufficient fuel combustion of the generator and power reduction. The mating surface of valve and valve seat of Volvo generator set shall be polished to improve its sealing performance, and replaced if necessary.

The damaged valve spring of the emergency generator set will cause difficulty in valve return, valve leakage, and gas compression ratio reduction, which will cause insufficient power of the emergency generator set. The damaged valve spring of emergency generator set shall be replaced in time.

Air leakage from the mounting hole of the fuel injector of the emergency generator set or damage to the copper gasket will cause cylinder shortage and make the engine power insufficient. The damaged parts shall be removed for maintenance and replaced. If the inlet temperature is too low, the heat loss will increase. At this time, the inlet temperature should be adjusted to meet the specified value. Incorrect valve clearance of emergency generator set will cause air leakage, resulting in engine power reduction and even fire difficulty. The valve clearance should be readjusted.
