Five Reasons of 450KW Diesel Generator Cylinder Wear

Jul. 23, 2021

What causes cylinder of 450KW diesel generator set wear?  450kw genset manufacturer answers for you!

We know that if a new or overhauled 450KW diesel generator set is put into operation without strict running in and test run, it will cause early wear of cylinders and other parts. In addition to this reason, what other reasons will cause the wear of the generating set cylinder?

450KW diesel generator set

1. Frequent starting. After the engine is shut down, the oil in the lubricating oil circuit quickly flows back to the oil pan. Therefore, frequent starting will make the surface of parts such as cylinder liner, piston and piston ring in the state of dry friction or semi dry friction, which will inevitably accelerate the wear of cylinder liner.

2. Long term overload operation. Due to the long-term overload operation of the engine, the engine temperature rises, the lubricating oil becomes thinner and the lubrication is poor, which accelerates the wear of parts such as cylinder liner, piston and piston ring. In addition, due to the rise of engine oil, the decrease of inflation coefficient, the imbalance between fuel and air, incomplete combustion, and the increase of carbon deposition in cylinder and other parts, cylinder failure is caused, which speeds up the early wear of cylinder.

3. Idle for a long time. When the engine idles for a long time, the engine temperature is too low, the lubrication is poor, the combustion is incomplete, and more carbon deposits are generated, which accelerates the early wear of the cylinder. In addition, due to the low machine temperature, acid substances are easy to be produced in the cylinder, which corrodes the cylinder, produces pitting and peeling, and causes the early wear of the cylinder.

4. Not pay attention to the maintenance of the air filter, resulting in serious blockage of the air filter element, and the air without the filter directly enters the cylinder. Among the various dust impurities contained in the air, silica accounts for more than half, and its hardness exceeds that of steel. Therefore, the air entering the cylinder accelerates the wear of the cylinder.

5. Change the oil irregularly. After the engine oil is used for a certain period of time, it gradually ages and deteriorates, loses its lubrication function, and mixes with some mechanical impurities to cause abrasive wear.

In addition, the 450KW diesel generator set is supplied with fuel during start-up and preheating. When the temperature of multi cylinder diesel engine is lower than 5 ℃, it must be fully preheated before supplying oil to the cylinder. However, during preheating, it is not only difficult to start, but also the fuel injected early increases the carbon deposition in the cylinder due to incomplete calcination, which accelerates the wear of the cylinder. These are the causes of cylinder wear of diesel generator set. According to these reasons, users can formulate methods to prevent cylinder wear of 450KW diesel generator set. Dingbo Power company hopes the above introduction can help users and hope the users will pay more attention to the maintenance of the genset, and do more preventive work to avoid early wear and tear.
