Diesel generator sets serve as crucial power supply equipment, playing a key role in numerous fields such as industrial and agricultural production, scientific research, urban construction, and daily life. Both silent canopy-type and silent containerized generator sets hold significant positions in the power generation sector. They each possess distinct characteristics and demonstrate unique advantages in different application scenarios. Let's explore the common features and differences between these two types of generator sets.
Before delving into their differences, let's first understand their shared characteristics.
Low noise: Both types of enclosed generator sets utilize advanced sound-absorbing materials and are scientifically designed using cutting-edge technologies from acoustics and airflow studies to achieve the goal of reducing generator set noise.
Easy to transport: The enclosures of both generator sets are made of high-quality metal with anti-dust and waterproof coatings to prevent external wear. The top of the enclosure is equipped with lifting lugs and rope hooks, while the chassis features forklift slots, towing holes, and mounting holes, enabling various functions such as towing, pulling, lifting, and forklifting. This facilitates movement and installation at different sites using various handling tools.
Strong adaptability: Both types of units are capable of withstanding rain, snow, and sand, making them suitable for open-air and remote fixed-site operations with strong environmental adaptability.
Low comprehensive cost: The external dimensions of the units are flexible and variable, allowing for customization based on different requirements. Their compact structure and small footprint eliminate the need for a dedicated generator room, resulting in lower overall construction costs.

Enclosure appearance and strength: The enclosure of a silent diesel genset is typically made of ordinary cold-rolled steel plates, featuring a flat structure with relatively lower strength. In contrast, silent containerized units use high-strength steel plates specifically designed for shipping containers. Their outer shell has a corrugated structure, where the concave-convex patterns enhance the enclosure's sturdiness, providing extremely high strength to withstand harsh weather conditions. Dingbo Power silent diesel generator sets use enclosures made of 2mm thick galvanized steel plates, which are rust-proof, resistant to discoloration, and significantly improve the product's overall strength and service life. Silent containers are constructed with 3mm thick steel plates, making them sturdy and durable. They can be configured according to customer needs using standard or non-standard containers.
Power range: Silent canopies are suitable for small to medium-power diesel generator sets. By industry convention, this typically applies to units below 600kW, though 1000kW generator sets can now also be configured as silent canopy types. Silent containers are suitable for medium to high-power generator sets, with a power range from 600kW to over 2000kW.
Noise reduction effect: The noise level of silent canopy generator sets is generally controlled below 75 dBA (at 7 meters). Silent container diesel generators, with their sturdier enclosures and larger internal space, facilitate more efficient sound insulation design, resulting in stronger noise reduction capability.

Maintenance convenience: The enclosure of silent generator sets adopts a modular assembly design. The enclosure is detachable, and individual panels can be replaced, making repairs more convenient. While containerized units offer more internal space, the high level of integration of internal equipment may require more planning for major component maintenance.
Transportation and mobility: Silent diesel generating sets have flexible dimensions, can be transported via standard trucks, and have lower requirements for on-site placement space. Silent containerized generator sets typically adopt 20/40-foot container dimensions, making them suitable for sea freight and hoisting, but they require heavy-duty vehicles for transportation and have specific site requirements.
Cost: Due to more complex materials and structure, silent containerized generator sets have a higher initial purchase cost. Compared to silent containerized units, silent generator sets have a lower initial acquisition cost.
Service life: Silent canopy generator sets employ conventional protection, whereas silent containerized generator sets use weather-resistant steel and specialized paints, leading to a longer service life.
From the above, we can understand that both types of generator sets have their own advantages. You can choose the type that suits your needs. For instance, if your requirement is above 1000kW, a silent containerized unit is almost a necessity as it provides sufficient structural strength and heat dissipation space. If the generator set needs to be installed in space-constrained locations like factory premises or residential buildings, or requires frequent relocation or site changes, then a silent generator set is an excellent choice. However, if the equipment needs to be placed in a fixed location long-term and faces extreme weather conditions like typhoons and heavy rain, or has extremely stringent noise control requirements, then a silent containerized generator set is more suitable.
