The Rated Power on the Nameplate of the Diesel Generator Set

Sep. 26, 2021

Diesel generator set is a combination of diesel engine and AC synchronous generator. The maximum power allowed by the diesel generator set is limited by the mechanical load and thermal load of the parts. Therefore, the maximum power allowed for continuous operation shall be specified, which is called the nominal power.Diesel generator sets cannot exceed the rated power, otherwise it will shorten its service life and may even cause accidents. According to national standards, the rated power on the nameplate of internal combustion engines is divided into the following four categories:

1. 15min power, that is, the maximum effective power that the internal combustion engine is allowed to run continuously for 15min. It is the calibrated power that may be overloaded in a short time and require acceleration performance, such as the calibrated power of internal combustion engines such as automobiles and motorcycles.

2. 1h power, that is, the maximum effective power that the internal combustion engine is allowed to run continuously for 1h. The calibrated power of internal combustion engines such as wheeled tractors, locomotives, ships, etc.

3. 12h power, that is, the maximum effective power that the internal combustion engine is allowed to run continuously for 12h. Such as power station unit, internal combustion engine used in construction machinery calibrated power.

4. Continuous power, that is, the maximum effective power that the internal combustion engine allows for long-term continuous operation.

Diesel generator sets can only output rated power under specified environmental conditions, and can work reliably and continuously. The working conditions of generating set stipulated by national standards are mainly determined according to the altitude, ambient temperature, relative humidity, presence or absence of mold, salt spray, and the inclination of placement. According to the national standard GB/T2819-1995, the power station should be able to output rated power and work reliably under the following conditions.

The Rated Power on the Nameplate of the Diesel Generator Set

1. Category A power station: The altitude is 1000m, the ambient temperature is 40°C, and the relative humidity is 60%.

2. Type B power station: the altitude is 0m, the ambient temperature is 20°C, and the relative humidity is 60%.

The diesel generator set should be able to work reliably under the following conditions, that is, the altitude does not exceed 4000m, the upper limit of the ambient temperature is 40°C, 45°C, and the lower limit is 5°C, -25°C, -40°C , The relative humidity is 60%, 90%, 95% respectively.

For a diesel generator set, the output power of the diesel engine refers to the mechanical power output by its crankshaft. According to regulations, the power of diesel generator sets for power stations is calibrated to 12h power. That is, the effective power of the diesel generator set when the atmospheric pressure is 101.325kPa, the ambient temperature is 20°C, and the relative humidity is 50% under standard operating conditions, when the diesel generator set operates normally at the rated speed for 12 hours, denoted by Ne.
