Diesel generator sets generates a lot of heat during normal operation. Excessive heat causes the temperature of the unit to rise, which affect the work efficiency. Therefore, the unit must be equipped with a cooling system to reduce the temperature of the unit. At present, there are two types in the common cooling system of the generator set: air-cooled and water-cooled, which one is better? Before making a choice, let us first understand the technical characteristics of these two types of heat dissipation generator sets.
Air-cooled generator
1. The engine must be air-cooled by the matching radiator.
2. The radiator must be sub-installed on a specially designed and approved bracket.
3. The radiator must be equipped with a flange joint of the ventilation duct so that the ventilation duct can be attached to the radiator. A section of air duct with flexible connector shall be installed between the radiator and the metal shutters. The pipe must be made of galvanized steel sheet. All pipes must have sealed joints.
4. The fan must have sufficient capacity and take into account the additional resistance of the airflow through the ducts and shutters.
Water-cooled generator
1. The engine must be water-cooled by a matching radiator, including a belt drive fan, a coolant pump, a liquid-cooled exhaust pipe controlled by a thermostat, an intercooler, and a corrosion-resistant coolant filter suitable for local conditions.
2. The radiator must be sub-installed on a specially designed and approved bracket.
3. The radiator must be equipped with a flange joint of the ventilation pipe so that the ventilation pipe can be attached to the radiator. A section of air duct with flexible connector shall be installed between the radiator and the metal shutters. The pipe must be made of galvanized sheet steel. All pipes must have sealed joints.
4. The fan must have sufficient capacity and take into account the additional resistance of the airflow through the ducts and shutters.
5. Anti-corrosion agent must be added to the cooling system.
6. The cooling system must be equipped with a coolant heater to keep the temperature of the coolant above 20°C to ensure easy start-up when needed. Antifreeze must also be added to the cooling system.
The above are the technical characteristics of air-cooled generators and water-cooled generators introduced by the generator manufacturer-Dingbo Power. The advantages of air-cooled generators are simple structure, easy to maintain, no danger of freezing, cracking or overheating, but they are environmentally friendly. The requirements are higher and the noise is higher, and it is more used in small gasoline generators and low-power diesel generator sets. The advantages of water-cooled generators are ideal cooling effect, rapid and stable cooling, and high power conversion rate of the unit itself. The common diesel generator sets on the market now include Cummins generators, Perkins generators, MTU (Benz) generators, and Volvo generators. Motors, Shangchai generators, and Weichai generators are generally water-cooled generator sets. The user should select a generator set that meets the requirements according to the actual situation. Dingbo Power has more than ten years experiences in the design and production on diesel generator sets, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any problem, we can be reached by email dingbo@dieselgeneratortech.com.
