Four Points for Attention When Starting Diesel Generator Set

Diesel generator set has the characteristics of flexibility, less investment and can be started at any time. However, the start-up steps of diesel generator set are not as simple as expected. Many new users have some misunderstanding about the start-up of diesel generator set. If it is not used properly, it will cause adverse effects on diesel generator set. So what should we pay attention to when starting the diesel generator set?

1、 Preparation before startup.

Every time before starting the engine, it is necessary to check whether the cooling water or antifreeze in the water tank of the diesel engine meets the requirements. If it is lack, it should be filled up. Pull out the oil dipstick to check whether there is a lack of lubricating oil. If there is a lack of lubricating oil, add it to the specified "static full" scale line, and then carefully check whether there is any hidden trouble in the relevant parts. If there is a fault, it should be removed in time before starting the machine.

2、 It is forbidden to start diesel engine with load.

Before starting the diesel generator set, the output air switch of the generator must be closed.

After starting the diesel engine of ordinary generator set, it needs to run at idle speed for 3-5 minutes (about 700 RPM). In winter, the temperature is low, and the idle running time should be extended for several minutes.

After starting the diesel engine, first observe whether the oil pressure is normal and whether there are abnormal phenomena such as oil leakage and water leakage. (under normal circumstances, the oil pressure must be above 0.2MPa). If any abnormality is found, stop the engine immediately for maintenance. If there is no abnormal phenomenon, the diesel engine speed will be increased to the rated speed of 1500 rpm, and the generator display frequency is 50 Hz and the voltage is 400 V, then the output air switch can be closed and put into use.

The generator set is not allowed to run without load for a long time（ Because the long-time no-load operation will make the diesel fuel from the diesel nozzle can not be completely burned, resulting in carbon deposition, resulting in valve and piston ring leakage.) If it is an automatic generator set, it does not need to run at idle speed, because the automatic generator set is generally equipped with a water heater, so that the cylinder block of the diesel engine is always maintained at about 45 ℃, and the power can be normally transmitted within 8-15 seconds after the diesel engine is started.

3、 Pay attention to observe the working state in operation.

During the operation of diesel generator set, special person should be on duty to observe a series of possible faults, especially the changes of oil pressure, water temperature, oil temperature, voltage, frequency and other important factors. In addition, we should also pay attention to having enough diesel oil. In operation, if the fuel oil is interrupted, it will objectively cause on load shutdown, which may cause damage to the generator excitation control system and related components.

4、 No shutdown with load.

Before each shutdown, the load must be cut off gradually, and then the output air switch of the generator set must be turned off. Finally, the diesel engine must be slowed down to the idle state and run for about 3-5 minutes before shutdown.
