How to Use A Gasoline Generator Set Properly?

Therefore, choose a well-ventilated, dry, and flat location with sufficient space for heat dissipation. Ensure there is adequate distance between the generator and electrical appliances to allow exhaust gases to disperse fully. Avoid prolonged operation in confined or enclosed spaces. Keep the generator away from flammable materials to prevent fires. Place the generator on a sturdy base to prevent displacement due to vibration or wind.

2. Check the generator’s appearance

Before starting the gasoline generator, inspect its appearance, wires, plugs, power sockets, and other components for any damage. Check for obvious signs of damage, such as cracks or dents on the casing. Ensure all connections and fasteners are secure, with no loose screws or detached wires.

3. Check oil and fuel

Before starting, check the oil level. Remove the oil dipstick (usually located on the side of the engine) to ensure the oil level is between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick. If the oil level is too low, it may affect the engine’s normal operation and increase wear on components. If the oil level is low, add oil promptly.

Ensure there is sufficient gasoline in the fuel tank. If the fuel is insufficient, open the fuel tank cap and use a clean funnel to add unleaded gasoline (90 octane or higher). Avoid overfilling to prevent spills.

4. Check the air filter and battery

Inspect the air filter for dirt. A dirty air filter can restrict airflow into the engine, reducing engine power and potentially causing irregular operation. If the air filter is dirty, clean or replace it promptly.

For gasoline generators equipped with a battery, check the battery’s charge level and ensure the connections are secure. Refer to the battery’s charge indicator; insufficient charge may cause difficulty starting the generator.

Starting the gasoline generator

1. Open the fuel valve

After completing all preparations, you can start the gasoline engine. Taking the Dingbo 10kW gasoline generator set as an example, first open the fuel valve to allow fuel to flow smoothly to the engine. The fuel valve is typically marked with ON and OFF positions; switch it to the ON position.

2. Turn on the battery switch

This gasoline generator features an electric start function, so turn on the battery switch. Locate the battery switch, flip it to the ON position to power the system, and the indicator light should illuminate.

3. Ground the generator

Before use, connect the ground wire. Grounding primarily prevents electric shock in case of leakage or short circuits by directing current into the ground, ensuring safety when touching metal components.

4. Turn on the power switch and start the generator

Turn on the power switch and observe the battery voltage on the controller screen. In manual mode, press and hold the start switch for 3 seconds to start the generator. To shut down, press and hold the start switch for 3 seconds again.
If using the controller to start, the stop indicator light on the controller will be red when in standby mode. To start the generator, simply press the start button on the controller.

5. Connect the load

Once the gasoline generator set is running normally, connect the load to the generator’s power outlet. For single-phase power, turn on the single-phase circuit breaker and connect a 220V power source. During operation, monitor the generator’s performance. If any abnormalities occur, address them promptly. Regularly check the generator’s oil level, voltage, current, and other indicators to ensure normal operation.

Stopping the gasoline generator

When stopping the generator, first disconnect the load to ensure the generator set is no longer supplying power. Then, turn the engine throttle switch to the OFF position to cut off the fuel supply and prepare for shutdown. Turn off the power switch, and finally, turn off the battery switch to completely shut down the generator set.
