Introduction to Protection Level of Diesel Genset

The protection grade of diesel generator set is below, which is summarized by Dingbo Power.

IP(INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION) is draft by IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION). The diesel generator set shall be classified according to its dust-proof and moisture-proof characteristics. The foreign objects mentioned here, including tools and human fingers, shall not touch the live part in the generator to avoid electric shock.

IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number represents the level of dust separation and prevention of foreign object intrusion of the generator, the second number represents the tightness of the generator against moisture and waterproof intrusion, and the larger the number is, the higher the protection level is.

The first indicates the definition of digital protection level:

0:No protection, no special protection for people or objects outside.

1: Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 50mm. Prevent human body (such as palm) from accidentally contacting parts inside generator. Prevent the intrusion of foreign objects with large size (diameter greater than 50mm).

2: Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 12mm. Prevent people's fingers from contacting the parts inside the lamp, and prevent the intrusion of foreign objects of medium size (12mm in diameter).

3: Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 2.5mm. Prevent tools, wires or similar details with diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm from invading and contacting the parts inside the generator.

4: Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 1.0mm. Prevent tools, wires or similar details with diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm from invading and contacting the parts inside the generator.

5: Dust prevention completely prevents the intrusion of foreign objects. Although it can not completely prevent the entry of dust, the amount of dust will not affect the normal operation of generator.

6: Dustproof, completely prevent the invasion of foreign objects, and completely prevent the entry of dust.

The second number indicates the definition of the degree of protection:

0: without protection.

1: Prevent water droplets from invading. Water droplets falling vertically (such as condensate) will not cause harmful effects on the generator.

2: When tilted by 15 degrees, dripping water can still be prevented. When the generator is tilted from vertical to 15 degrees, dripping water will not cause harmful effects on the generator.

3:prevent the intrusion of sprayed water. Prevent rain, or prevent the water sprayed in the direction with an included angle of less than 60 degrees from entering the generator to cause damage.

4:prevent splashing water from invading. Prevent water splashing from all directions from entering the generator and causing damage.

5:prevent the intrusion of sprayed water. Prevent the water from the nozzle in all directions from entering the generator and causing damage.

6:Prevent the invasion of big waves. Generators installed on deck to prevent damage caused by large waves.

7: Prevent water intrusion during immersion. If the generator is immersed in water for a certain time or the water pressure is below a certain standard, it can ensure that it will not be damaged due to water inflow.

8: Prevent water intrusion when sinking. The indefinite sinking of the generator can ensure no damage due to water inflow under the specified water pressure.

For example, common protection level of generator is IP21 to IP23, this is the standard requirements. All generator produced by Dingbo Power is IP22 to IP23.

IP22 indicate that:

1)It can prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 12mm. Prevent people's fingers from contacting the parts inside the lamp, and prevent the intrusion of foreign objects of medium size (12mm in diameter). 2) When tilted by 15 degrees, still can prevent dripping water. When the generator is tilted from vertical to 15 degrees, dripping water will not cause harmful effects on the generator.

IP23 indicates that:

1)It will be higher protection, can prevent the intrusion of sprayed water. Prevent rain, or prevent the water sprayed in the direction with an included angle of less than 60 degrees from entering the generator to cause damage.

2)Also includes the item 1) above of IP22.
