There are two kinds of self-contained emergency generator sets: diesel generator set and gas turbine generator set.

When selecting diesel generator set, high-speed diesel generator set and brushless automatic excitation device should be selected. Because the high-speed diesel generator set has the advantages of small size, light weight, reliable start-up and operation, etc. The brushless automatic excitation device has the characteristics of adapting to various starting modes, easy to realize unit automation or generator set, and when used together with the automatic voltage regulation device, the static voltage regulation rate can be guaranteed to be within ± 2.5%.

The self-contained emergency generator set shall be equipped with fast automatic starting and automatic power switching devices, and have the function of self starting for three consecutive times. For a class of high-rise buildings, the self starting switching time shall not exceed 30s; For other buildings, manual starting devices can also be used when it is difficult to use automatic starting. Generally, the unit should be started by electricity instead of compressed air. The total number of generator units should not exceed 2, and the unit capacity is generally 800KW and below.

Gas turbine generator device includes gas turbine, generator, control panel, starting battery, oil tank, air inlet and exhaust, silencer and other equipment. The cooling of gas turbine does not need water cooling, but uses air to cool itself. In addition, combustion requires a lot of air, so the air demand of gas turbine unit is 2.5 ~ 4 times greater than that of diesel unit. Therefore, the installation location must consider the upper floor or roof with convenient air intake and exhaust, and should not be located in the basement, because the air intake and exhaust of the basement are difficult.
