Self Starting Diesel Generator VS Automatic Switching Diesel Generator

There are two versions of the automation of the diesel generator set. One is automatic switching, that is, automatic plus automatic transfer switching, which does not require manual operation, but it can only be achieved by adding an automatic transfer switch cabinet based on the use of the automatic control module. It is that when the mains power is cut off, the diesel generator set automatically starts to generate electricity after automatically detecting the signal, and then automatically switches on. When the mains power is on, it automatically opens, automatically shuts down, And return to the initial state, waiting for the next startup

The self starting diesel generator set is different. It only needs one automatic control module. When the mains power failure is detected, the diesel generator set will automatically start and manually switch on. When the mains power is on, the diesel generator set will only automatically shut down, but will not automatically switch off, which also requires manual operation.

Please make clear what kind of automation you need to avoid waste when choosing automatic generator set. In fact, only the diesel generator set for fire protection in general needs full automation, while in general, only the diesel generator set for self starting is required.

How to operate diesel generator?

1.No-load start

The diesel engine should not be started with load, and the output air switch of the diesel generator should be in the closed state before starting.

2. No-load stop

The diesel engine shall not be stopped with load. The load of the diesel generator shall be cut off gradually before shutdown, and the output air switch of the generator set shall be closed

3.Idle running

When starting the diesel engine of a regular generating set, it should undergo 3-5 minutes of idle operation (around 700 rpm). In winter, if the temperature is low, the idle time should be appropriately extended to 8-10 minutes (around 700 rpm); When stopping, slow down to 700 rpm and idle for 3-5 minutes before stopping.

4.Operation process

When the indoor temperature is below 10 ℃, the electric heater should be turned on to preheat the machine.

3. Ensure that the voltage of the battery pack is normal.

4. All indicator lights are normal.

5. Each switch in the distribution cabinet should be placed in the open position, and the indication of each instrument should be reset to zero.

6. Ensure that the coolant or antifreeze in the diesel engine water tank is sufficient.

7. Ensure that the oil level is at the static full mark.

8. Ensure that the oil circuit between the unit and the fuel tank is unobstructed.

5. Manual start

1. Start the intake and exhaust fans (open doors and windows to ensure good ventilation).

2. Turn the key clockwise to start the engine button. If the first startup fails, press the corresponding reset button on the power distribution panel, and wait until the alarm is cleared and the unit returns to normal state before proceeding with the second startup. After starting, the machine operates normally, the operating indicator light of the cooling water pump is on and the instrument panel indicates normal operation, indicating successful startup.

3. Adjust the engine speed to 700 rpm, run for 3-5 minutes (8-10 minutes in winter), observe factors such as oil pressure (normal oil pressure greater than 0.2MPa), water temperature, oil temperature, voltage, frequency, etc., and check the unit for any abnormal phenomena such as water or oil leakage. If any abnormal phenomena are found, immediately shut down for maintenance.

4. Increase the speed of the diesel engine to the rated speed of 1500 rpm. At this time, the generator displays a frequency of 50HZ and a voltage of 400V. Then, the output air switch can be closed and put into use. The generator set should not operate without load for a long time. (Long time no-load operation will cause the diesel fuel injected from the diesel engine fuel injection nozzle to fail to burn completely, resulting in carbon deposition and air leakage of valves and piston ring.) If it is an automatic generator set, idle operation is not required, because the automatic generator set is generally equipped with a water heater to keep the diesel engine cylinder body at about 45 ℃, and the diesel engine can be powered normally within 8-15 seconds after starting.
