Why Does Engine Oil Flow out From Exhaust Pipe After DG Set Started

Recently, users reported that after starting the diesel generator set, a small amount of engine oil was found to flow out of the exhaust pipe. Dingbo Power immediately sent professional after-sales maintenance personnel to the site for maintenance to eliminate the generator fault for users.

Fault analysis

Generally, there are two kinds of failures. One is that more oil enters the combustion chamber of 500kVA generator, causing the oil to be discharged without burning; Second, the oil output of the high-pressure oil pump seriously exceeded the standard. In addition, a small amount of engine oil entered the combustion chamber, forming a large amount of diesel oil and engine oil mixture that was ejected without sufficient combustion in the combustion chamber.

Cause of failure

1. The clearance between piston ring and cylinder liner in diesel engine is too large;

2. The piston ring is not staggered as required;

3. The clearance between the rocker arm and the rocker arm shaft is too large, causing a lot of oil to flow into the valve chamber (the clearance between the valve stem and the valve pin is too large), and the oil enters the combustion chamber.

Troubleshooting

1. After shutdown, check the oil quality and quantity of the engine oil. It is found that the engine oil is too thin and the oil quantity exceeds the static full scale of the oil pan oil scale by about 1cm;

2. After the engine oil is drained, add new engine oil again to the position between the dynamic full scale mark and the static full scale mark of the engine oil dipstick;

3.After starting the diesel generator to the rated speed, after a period of observation, no oil is discharged from the exhaust pipe, and the fault is eliminated.
