Why Should Coolant Be Drained for Long Term Unused Diesel Generator

The diesel generator set, as a widely used power generation equipment, can be divided into common units, standby units and emergency units according to the purpose. The common units are perennial units, and the emergency standby generators are only started when users need them. Such units should pay attention to the timely discharge of coolant in winter.

The coolant has many functions such as anti freezing, anti boiling, anti-corrosion, and anti scaling, which can prevent the coolant from freezing in cold weather or boiling in high temperature. It is applicable to various temperatures. In addition, the coolant contains anti rust and anti-corrosion additives, which have a special protective effect on the water tank and engine cooling chamber, and prevent cylinder liner cavitation and cooling system corrosion. The freezing point of the coolant is -25 ℃, -35 ℃, -40 ℃ and other specifications. Users need to select diesel engine coolant with different freezing points according to the local ambient temperature. The selection principle is that the freezing point is about 10 degrees lower than the local air temperature.

When using the generator set in winter, you should correctly choose the antifreeze. If you choose the wrong type, the diesel generator set will be damaged. Dingbo Power suggests that you should pay attention to the following issues when choosing the antifreeze:

1. The coolant must be checked regularly. In order to prevent corrosion damage, it should be replaced according to the actual situation.

2. When selecting antifreeze, you must select conventional antifreeze to avoid unnecessary damage to the generator set.

3. For low temperature in special areas, consult the generator set manufacturer to select appropriate antifreeze.

If your equipment (such as generator set, agricultural machinery, etc.) needs to be shut down for a long time in winter, be sure to drain the coolant completely to avoid engine failure caused by freezing of the coolant at low temperature!

4. In winter, the temperature in the north is generally below 0 ℃. In order to prevent scaling on the waterways and the inner wall of the water tank of the diesel generator set, which greatly affects the heat dissipation capacity, it must be softened before use.

5. When the local temperature is lower than 0℃, antifreeze should be used as the coolant, which is usually made of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and water. The freezing point of antifreeze shall be selected according to the local climate conditions, and the freezing point is generally 5 ℃ lower than the local lower temperature.

6. It is prohibited to use water and inferior coolant as the engine coolant.
